Freytag Family Papers

Abstract

This collection gives a glimpse into the life of the Freytag family, a miltary family from Wartburg, TN. The collection includes correspondence, press clippings, photographs, and certificates regarding the Freytag children, Albert Jr., Fred, and Maxwell. Albert Jr. was enlisted in the U.S. Marines, Fred was enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and Maxwell was enlisted in the U.S. Army. All materials are photocopies, donated by the family matriarch, Ethel H. Freytag.

This collection consists of correspondence, photographs, press clippings, recollections, and ephemera collected by Evelyn Hogins concerning World War II. It also includes material concerning Evelyn's mother, Annie Hogins, and Evelyn's brothers: Clifford, Lawrence "Buster", and Marshall Hogins. The brothers all served in the U.S. military. A significant portion of the collection is comprised of photocopies.

This collection documents Meeks B. Vaughan's time serving with the 17th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron in World War II. Included are personal belongings, such as a handwritten diary, currency (both domestic and foreign), photographs and a photograph album. The collection also contains military documents such as supply, order, and transfer forms; certificates; receipts; and intelligence photographs and maps from his photographic missions.

William Hunt Scrapbooks and Other Materials

Abstract This collection consists primarily of two scrapbooks documenting William H. Hunt's service in the Army Corps of Engineers between 1942 and 1946. The larger scrapbook contains three professional portraits of Hunt in uniform, snapshots, magazine and newspaper clippings dating from 1945 and 1984, a telegraph that Hunt sent to his parents, a copy of a letter of commendation, and a propaganda leaflet that the Japanese dropped while he as stationed on Leyte.
